About Us

Vitalizing Vision and Art Team

We are a group of graduate students and faculty based out of the UCSF Department of Ophthalmology. All of us are passionate about vision, art, and patient storytelling. We believe that art can be a fundamental way of capturing and sharing individuals' relationships to health and medicine, and we welcome you to share your creativity here. You may find us staffing the art booths in the clinic waiting rooms. Feel free to stop by and say hi!

Meet The Team

Dr. Madeline Yung

Madeline Yung is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Academic Director of the Refractive Service at UCSF. She believes strongly in understanding the holistic patient experience during her clinical/surgical practice. Her favorite artistic mediums include poetry, painting, and piano.

Kaitlyn Hsu

Kaitlyn is a first-year medical student with a deep passion for the patient experience and the unique story each patient carries. She is also interested in the creation that happens when two fields intersect, no matter how different they may be. The humanities and medicine are two such fields, and she is hopeful that this initiative will provide exciting new ways for patients to share their experiences through art.

Anika Kumar

Anika Kumar is a 3rd year medical student at UCSF with a strong interest in storytelling, visual health, and art, especially dance and photography. Anika is excited to highlight patients' creativity and explore their stories and experiences through their participation in the art booths.

Vivian Kwok

Vivian is a second-year medical student with an interest in storytelling and patient experience. She is excited to be part of this initiative centering patients at the intersection of healthy and creativity.

Shreya Menon

Shreya is a fourth year MD/PhD student at UCSF. She is interested in the intersection of humanities and medicine, and is excited about making art more accessible to patients through the station. In her free time, she loves to bake, make music and take long walks around the city.

Chloe Sales

Chloe Sales is a third-year medical student at UCSF with an interest in the medical humanities, patient-centered narratives, global health, and writing. Through this initiative, Chloe hopes to empower our patients to share their stories through creative means, as well as highlight the importance of the humanities in medical care.
